First Goodbye

October 11, 2011

I know I am not the perfect care taker.  Sometimes, I refuse to answer you because I am tired of hearing the question. Some days, your lunch is straight out of the microwave and doesn’t even resemble the foods on the food pyramid. Most days, I’m tired and less patient than I know I could be.

As we move your furniture into your new home, I wonder if their staff will notice enough to give you Advil when your arthritis kicks in. Will they realize that you are too strong to admit you are in pain and read it on your face? I wonder if they will be there when you get scared and reassure you.  It only takes a few minutes to tell you where you are and help you back to bed.

After spending years becoming your parent instead of your granddaughter, I can’t imagine how anyone can do it like we do.

Is this what parents feel like on the first day of Kindergarten?

Yup – I agree with Carrie. The first day of kindergarten is hard but it gets better, as I hope it does for you and your family. It sounds like you are a very kind and loving, caretaker.
