A spoonful of vinegar

October 18, 2011

When I started volunteering, I didn’t realize how much it would become a part of my life or Gramps’.  I needed something to do and only one organization called back quickly.  Iskashitaa gave me work that I felt proud of and welcomed me to express my talents and skills everyday.

Most importantly, they welcomed Gramps with all of his quirks and accepted our family’s special needs.  Now, we all volunteer with Iskashitaa and the staff have become a part of our extended family.

Today, Mom, Gramps, and I were preparing for a festival.  I was creating vinegar labels, Mom was re-labeling bottles, and Gramps was boxing them up.  We looked like a production line and everyone was happily talking together.

Suddenly, Gramps made a horrible face and the director started laughing.  Gramps had forgotten what his job was and sampled the vinegar.  I laughed the hardest I had for weeks and Gramps got to take some vinegar home with him.

No one was mad because when you are working with family, you don’t need to explain.

What it looks like when something tastes bad.

Great story about Uncle Bessie drinking the vinegar! Somehow, I had missed this one. So glad I read it. I can just see him tasting that vinegar. Thanks for sharing. xoxo
