Will He Go Back?

November 6, 2011
I waited for ten days before I took Dad out of the independent living facility.  I was afraid he wouldn’t be willing to go back to his new home. I thought it would be confusing or upsetting.  I had heard of other families who learned the hard way that it was too upsetting.
We had a wonderful time!  We spent time volunteering, had lunch, and did some shopping.  We talked and laughed but when it was time to return, I was nervous. Would the transition be upsetting?  How would he react to my leaving?
We walked in the front door and Dad went straight back to his room.  He knew right where to go.  When he came out of his room dinner was being served.  Dad sat in his usual seat and started eating.
It was such a relief to find that we could still enjoy our time together in the community!
