The Wonderful VA pension

April 18, 2013
Dad has been approved for a VA pension.  The VA provides aid and attendance pensions for veterans and their spouses.  It is a monthly benefit that is intended to cover some of the expenses of care for an individual  who can no longer care for him/her self.
The pension is partly based on the individual’s assets. They consider assets the person has in his own name but they didn’t count his house or car.  Dad will even get reimbursed for the expenses during 17 months before we applied.  He’ll be reimbursed for his live-in caregiver and for all of his medical and insurance payments.  This unexpected benefit will assure that he can live in the facility of our choice.
